PORTABLE HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY
SYSTEM
MODEL 620 PHSS
NEW
Originally
designed to meet the demanding needs of the US ARMY, the Innerspace
Technology Model 620 PHSS is a truly portable and fully integrated
hydrographic survey system (PHSS) and is designed to collect hydrographic
X-Y-Z data from a small boat, Zodiac style craft or other marine vessel
for the purpose of post-processing this data into bottom topographical
maps primarily in near shore, littoral zone, inland waterways, lakes and
reservoir operations.
The 620 PHSS
consists of a depth sounder (both analog and digital depth presentation),
DGPS and data collection software. Via split screen presentation, real
time sounding charts are displayed on one side of the 10.4 inch, daylight
readable, color LCD and data collection software screens on the other
side.
The complete,
self contained, data collection system is Windows XP based (both operating
system and data logging) and is packaged in a waterproof, high impact ,
non-metallic transit/operating case and is designed for both commercial
and military use. The system is waterproof both open and closed.
Having the
depth sounder, data collection software and GPS in one, self-contained
system minimizes external cabling to DC Power IN, GPS Antenna IN and
Transducer IN. There are just three connections to make in the operating
mode. Two other I/O connectors are for Keyboard IN and GPS Controller IN
but both of these are for setup and are not used during data collection
onboard the survey craft.
The 620 PHSS
is at the state-of-the-art as a small boat hydrographic data collection
system. |

MODEL 448 THERMAL
DEPTH SOUNDER RECORDER:
The 448
Thermal Depth Sounder Recorder provides survey precision, high
resolution depth recordings using solid state thermal printing. The
lightweight, portable unit is designed for use in small boat surveying
as required for nautical chart production, engineering surveys, harbor
and channel maintenance, pre and post dredge surveys, etc. The Model 448
TDSR uses a thermal printing technique pioneered by Innerspace for depth
sounding which provides the high resolution and accuracy required by
groups such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, dredging companies,
survey companies, port administrations, etc. The design allows easy
integration into hydrographic data collection systems.
There are
more 448’s in service in the USA than any other precision depth sounder.
It is widely used by private survey companies, the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In the
Corps of Engineers alone, there are over fifty 448’s in service at 18
district offices and a number of 449's as well.
In our
opinion, and in the opinion of many of our customers, the 448 is the
best precision sounder on the market in terms of performance and
reliability. Many customer references are available and will be provided
upon request; you owe it to yourself to get user comments before you

The 449
Thermal Depth Sounder Recorder is a precision survey and scientific
depth sounder with black and gray tone thermal printing. Chart
recordings provide excellent detail where prevailing conditions include
suspended sediments (fluff), light silt, mid water layering (thermal or
biological) or aquatic vegetation. Unique Gray Threshold feature allows
selective imaging of mid water replies. Single and dual frequency models
are available.
The 449 is
used for high speed (20 knots) condition surveys on ten boats in the
lower Mississippi River by the New Orleans Corps of Engineers, where the

MODEL 447 THERMAL DEPTH SOUNDER RECORDER:
The Model
447 is a precision navigation depth sounder for commercial and military
ships. The 447 comes with remote depth alarm/depth display. The main
cabinet has both thermally printed analog chart and digital display.
Typically, digital depth would be displayed for the entire cruise, and
the chart recording turned on when entering and leaving port for
archival document purposes. Depth output is in NEMA format for use with
integrated bridge navigation systems.
The 447 can be furnished
with a transducer of any frequency; typically 200 kHz or 24kHz, or can
be set up for use with a transducer already installed in the hull of the
ship. Using an existing transducer saves the cost of dry-docking the
ship.
When used at 200 kHz, the
447 can measure to within one foot of the hull mounted transducer face,
an important consideration when entering or leaving port to determine
the hull-to-bottom clearance.
The 447 is currently
installed on a number of Arco Marine oil tankers where they are
providing flawless performance. |

SOUND
VELOCITY PROFILERS:
The 443
Velocity Profiler was designed to provide the precise speed-of-sound
needed to calibrate survey depth sounders for variations in sound
velocity in the water column for US Army Corps of Engineers customers
and others involved with precision waterways maintenance or dredging
surveys.
Before the
advent of the 443, a "bar check" procedure was used whereby a bar or
plate was lowered a known distance and suspended under the transducer
face. Then, if the sounder chart reading was slightly different, the
speed-of-sound adjustment on the sounder was changed until the chart
read the correct distance. However, the bar check is not always easy or
safe to perform. It is especially difficult on larger boats, in winter
where icy conditions exist on deck and where currents make it difficult
to position the bar correctly.
The criteria
for developing the Model 443 was that the product provide data that was
as good or better than provided by the manual bar check. Innerspace has
accomplished this; the 443 is easier to use and provides better data
more consistently than the manual bar check procedure. The customers
using the 443 on their daily surveys find it to be an indispensable
survey tool.
Since the
443 provides precise speed-of-sound for each foot of the water column,
this data can also be used to correct acoustical transmissions from any
underwater ranging device, such as transponders used in oil exploration
and other applications.
