PLANET OCEAN - TECHNOLOGY - MADE TO MEASURE !

Ocean Business 2007 is almost upon us!

Planet Ocean will be exhibiting at this new and exciting event, and will be featuring some class room workshops presented by some of our Principals.

OB07, is a unique event that combines a series of manufacturers workshops and seminars, along with a small exhibition.  It is an opportunity for users and potential users to experience the technology first hand in a workshop / laboratory environment.  The workshops are run by technical experts from the manufacturers, and so offer the opportunity for you to see the equipment operational, and to ask any technical questions that you may have, rather than have a rushed discussion over a static display in a noisy exhibition environment.  There will also be opportunities to attend “at sea” demonstrations of some manufacturers systems.

OB07 will be held at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton on the 27th, 28th and 29th March 2007.  Planet Ocean will be hosting workshops by ASL, AXYS, & Fluid Imaging Technologies.  RBR Ltd will also be in attendance.

ASL will be demonstrating and discussing their new hardware and software incorporated into the Ice Profiler, and Water Column Profiler.

27th

27th  27th    11:30  - 12:30  ICE Pro

28th    15:00  - 16:00  WCPro

AXYS will be showing system operation, including Waveview data display software and the portability of the TRIAXYS wave sensor to larger buoy platforms such as WatchKeeper. AXYS will have a TRIAXYS directional wave buoy deployed in Southampton Water.

27th  27th    10:00  - 11:00

28th    16:30  - 17:30

Fluid Imaging Technologies, will be showing their FlowCAM, Flow Cytometer system.

27th  27th   10:00  - 11:00

28th    16:30  - 17:30

RBR will not be running any workshops but technical staff will be on hand to answer your questions and discuss your applications.  There will be a chance to see the new version of the MS-310 salinometer.

This is a unique opportunity to meet these companies technical representatives in a non formal environment, and to have hands on experience with the technology.  Admission to OB07 is free to delegates, and attendance at the workshops is initially by invitation only and places are limited. To avoid disappointment, please contact the undersigned as soon as possible to reserve your place at one of the workshops.  Advanced registration and more detail can be found at www.oceanbusiness2007.com

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and to seeing you in March.

NEW PARTNERS FOR 07

Towards the end of 2006, Planet Ocean reached agreement with a number of new and exciting technology partners to bring to you the vary latest in marine environmental technology.

Between them, our partners have invested several millions of pounds into product design and development, and we make these developments available to you through us.

DSPComm, from Perth Western Australia, have developed a unique acoustic modem system, using advanced wide band spread spectrum techniques to produce a high reliability, through water data link.  The system is available in underwater housings or as board sets for building into users existing equipment.

Underwater wireless modems can deliver cost benefits that are orders of magnitude superior to wired systems. However this potential is rarely realised, often because the modems simply do not communicate reliably and are too bulky and power hungry.

In 2000, DSPComm was founded with the purpose of bringing rock-solid reliability and unprecedented versatility to underwater wireless modems.

Today, DSPComm are one of the fastest growing companies in the underwater wireless modem market. Their modems are used by some of the top names in the industry in applications that require the highest level of reliability and versatility the market can offer.

Fluid Imaging Technology, hail from Maine USA.  The FlowCAM system provides researchers with an extremely powerful flow cytometer, which combines, fluorometry and microscopy into a single instrument, supported with advanced image processing software.

CarteNav are based in Halifax Nova Scotia and produce Specialist AIS system enhancers which allow AIS users to extend their visibility horizon, to anywhere on the planet.
LATEST PRODUCT NEWS

Along with all of the new products from our new partners, take a look at these.....

RBR have released a new version of their very successful TR-1050 single channel temperature logger.

The TR-1060, is smaller, uses a single battery and has redesigned mechanics to prevent water reaching delicate parts when opening the pressure case for data download.  There is also an increase in the deployment depth capability to 1200m.

The accuracy is still +/- 0.002 degrees C, and the super large memory also remains the same.

Also new from RBR is HYDROTIDE II.  Based upon the successful HYDROTIDE survey tide gauge from Planet Ocean, the new system uses all of the advanced technology available from RBR, together with their user friendly and robust software which replaces the old DOS based system.

Planet Ocean have replaced their very successful RAD-STAR active radar reflector,  with a new version TRON.

Tron, is smaller, and lower cost than its predecessor, but still offers the same level of performance.  TRON is available with a variety of base units, including a battery pack for use with life rafts.

BUOYTRACKER, the GPS-GSM  tracking system has been upgraded to provide additional functions including automated position reporting for drifting buoy projects, and is now available in an IP67 enclosure with internal battery power supply.

LATEST PROJECT NEWS

Sales of our DB data buoy range, continue to grow, with some exciting and unusual applications. Now available with AIS transponders, to provide not only enhanced visibility, but also capable of sending data on the AIS channel.

The 1.75m hull and above are ideally suited to support the TRIAXYS wave sensor, which provides users the flexibility to deploy wave buoys in vulnerable locations where smaller buoys would be at risk.  This combination not only provides wave height information, but due to the technology used within the TRIAXYS sensor, also provides direction information.  The system can be enhanced to include a choice of Met-Ocean parameters.

The TRIAXYS sensor unit is comprised of three accelerometers, three  rate gyros, a fluxgate compass, the proprietary TRIAXYS Processor and an AXYS sea surface temperature sensor. The TRIAXYS Processor was developed from the successful low-power WatchMan payload processor specifically designed by AXYS for the marine environment.

We have worked on a number of value added systems during 2006, including two from RBR. The Mary Rose Trust commissioned us to develop a complicated system for measuring the seabed chemistry amongst other things at the Mary Rose Wreck Site.  The project called for temperature pressure conductivity, salinity, pH, D.O, ORP, H2S and an acoustic altimeter to check on sediment build up.  RBR came up with the solution, and Planet Ocean designed and manufactured the deployment system

We used a fast time constant XR-420 CTD system, from RBR, and designed and built a profiling hand winch with slip rings, deployment cradle and deck unit to provide DSTL, with a high precision Speed of Sound monitoring system for use in high currents.

Sales of the Satlantic FIRe (Fluorescence Induction and Relaxation) system continue to grow, with systems shipping to University of Essex, NOC, and PML.

FIRe is the latest advance in bio-optical technology to measure variable fluorescence in photosynthetic organisms.

The picture shows Dr David Suggett from University of Essex, who was using the first of two systems purchased, before the second was even unpacked!

NEW FACILITIES

Also at the end of 2006, we took possession of our new premises in Frimley, Surrey a mile from our exisiting office. The new facility includes a small workshop/lab with equipment store and an office - training area.

Postal and telephone details remain the same.
